The work was premiered at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, in Louisville, Kentucky. The composer was the collaborative pianist for the premiere.

Awake, Arise, Rejoice! is a large anthem for mixed chorus with soprano solo, brass, percussion, harp, and organ. The composition was commissioned by the Music and Arts Program of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (Atlanta, Georgia). It was premiered by the program's choirs with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The composer was organist in this performance.
